How to change a water valve on a toilet. Using adjustable pliers or adjustable wrench remove the valve nut. Use two wrenches to do this. 2remove old fill valve.
Remove and lift the fill valve from the tank. Replace a toilet shut off valve. If the new fill valve didnt come with a new nut the one from the old fill valve will work.
Remove the old toilet shut off. You dont need to screw it in too tight and if you are using a tool be careful how tight you screw it in. The valve nut locks the toilet valve body into the toilet tank.
Locate the toilet valve and remove it find the fill valve inside the tank and hold it steady as you unscrew the inlet hose and back nut from the underside of the tank where the water supply connects to the tank. Take out water line that goes from the toilet to the valve. Wipe down the tank with a micro fiber cloth to remove and remaining water debris or stains.
Disconnect the supply line. Then carefully pull the supply line out of the valve underneath the tank. Detach the toilet fill valve.
Take out the old cut off valve from water pipe that comes from the wall. Drain the water lines. Take one wrench each in both hands and push the two wrenches in opposite directions from one another.
Put that nut over the end of the fill valve underneath the tank just like the old fill valve and screw it into place. This nut will loosen the valve and let you remove it completely from the tank.
